OK, now I'm getting really excited. I had so much to do up until today, but now that it's all done, I've just been focusing on getting ready for the trip. I've got my bags all packed and ready to go, so now I'm just watching some basketball and playing the waiting game until I get picked up to head to the airport at 6am. I'm still debating whether I should go to bed tonight, though I'm not sure it will be much of a choice, considering I may not even be able to sleep!
For those of you that may not know, this trip is actually a 3 credit course I am required to complete to get my MBA. The Maine Business School requires every MBA student to take a foreign trip to graduate, and they put together 2 trips every year. This year, we could choose between a trip to Japan, and a trip to Brazil and the Amazon. Myself and about 18 other MBA students will be going to Japan. along with 2 professors. I picked Japan because I've been dying to take a trip over there for a few years now. Of course, there was a lot of prep work involved to earn those 3 credits. We broke into pairs and presented on some of the companies we will be meeting with and also on some aspects of Japanese culture. During the trip we'll all be keeping journals reflecting on the experience, and then we'll be completing a research paper on a topic of our choice after the trip is over.
During the trip, we'll be spending 5 days in Tokyo visiting businesses like Dentsu, Itochu, Avaya, and the Tokyo Stock Exchange, among others. We're also planning to visit a L.L. Bean store, Tokyo Disneyland, take a walking tour of Ginza, visit the Tsukiji fish market and more. After 5 days in Tokyo we will take the bullet train to Nagoya to take a tour of the Toyota plant there. The next 2 days will be spent in Kyoto taking in as much as we can. In Kyoto we'll be touring a Sake brewery, attending a traditional tea ceremony, visiting a ton of shrines and temples, and much more.
My next update should come after we get to the hotel in Tokyo. In the meantime, remember to comment and check back soon!
good luck tom, i am not so much interested in your visiting of businesses though. Hopefully you blog more about the amount of vending machines and wacky arcade game and game shows.
